“Growth and development through diversity, safety and nurturing”

THE SCHOOL

The YMCA Community Learning Centre offers educational and life-skill programming to students grades 7 to 9. These students have the ability to succeed, but for one reason or another have not been successful in a regular junior high school setting.

Classes are held daily with mandatory attendance in a more flexible and supportive environment. Smaller class sizes, modified instruction, and a shorter school day are just a few of the factors that make our students more successful.

In addition to their academic development, students can access help with career planning, life management and self-esteem building; skills that are vital for success in

THE STUDENTS

Medicine Hat YMCA Community Learning Centre is a learning institution where courtesy and respect for others prevail. In cooperation with staff, students are responsible for maintaining a positive learning environment by being courteous and exhibiting acceptable conduct toward each other and school personnel.

Come to the building prepared to do your job.

INVOLVING PARENTS

Student success is dependent on a strong support system. We work hard to involve the student, teachers and parents in sharing the successes and the responsibilities of problem solving. The staff members at the Learning Centre meet on a regular basis to discuss challenges and develop new strategies to help support students as individuals in the classroom. We communicate openly and honestly with parents regarding the strengths and challenges that their children face. Parents' comprehensive understanding and support of the classroom environment is vital to this “education partnership”.

THE STAFF

The program is facilitated by highly qualified/specialized staff. The staff deliver an educational experience that is custom designed to meet the specific needs of each individual student.

In addition to the teachers in the program, education assistants are available to provide support to students when necessary.

The Family School Liaison Worker is available to the students and parents/guardians to discuss and work towards resolutions of personal, social and school life issues.

Our school also has a School Resource Officer who checks in with us on a regular basis and is available to answer any questions or concerns students may have.

We work as a team with students and parents to provide a supportive and stable environment in which kids can succeed.

We bring the knowledge, desire, understanding, patience, enthusiasm, and commitment necessary to empower students to be successful in their endeavors.

HOW CAN I APPLY?

Take some time to consider why you want to come to this school. If you are attending because YOU want an education, YOU will succeed here.

Drop in and pick up a registration form. Once completed an intake meeting will be set up with the Principal. This meeting provides us with the information necessary to ensure that this is the right program and to assist the student in being successful.

School Fees:

$100.00 for the year

“I've heard that this school is easy!”

Nothing in this world worth having comes by easily. YOU are the one who has to put the effort into being successful.
