“Finding our own way ”

Medicine Hat Alternative High Program offers students the chance to earn their high school diploma in an environment that is informal, supportive, and flexible.

This alternative academic high school is geared towards students aged 16-19 (as of September 1st). These students have the ability to succeed, but for one reason or another have not been successful in a regular high school setting.

In addition to their academic development, students can access help with career planning, life management and self-esteem building; skills that are vital for success in today's fast paced world.

Right from the beginning, students are entrusted with a high level of ownership and responsibility.

The program's reputation and success is dependent upon the people who attend the school.

THE STUDENTS ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

THE STUDENTS

In order to be successful, you need to be the kind of person who is willing to learn without constantly being supervised. YOU have to take OWNERSHIP of your own educational program. You have to make the decision that YOU ARE THE ONE IN CONTROL OF YOUR SUCCESS.

THE COURSES

Medicine Hat Alternative High Program offers courses that meet the high standards of the Alberta High School Curriculum and lead toward a high school diploma. This includes the core courses of Math, Social, English, Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Physical Education, and option courses such as: Work Experience, Community Health, etc.

Students enrolled in a traditional high school may supplement their program with courses offered at Medicine Hat Alternative High Program.

THE STAFF

The program is facilitated by highly qualified/specialized staff. The staff deliver an educational experience that is custom designed to meet the specific needs of each individual student.

The Family School Liaison Worker is available to the students and parents/guardians to discuss and work towards resolutions of personal, social and school life issues.

We work as a team with students and parents to provide a supportive and stable environment in which kids can succeed.

We bring the knowledge, desire, understanding, patience, enthusiasm, and commitment necessary to empower students to be successful in their endeavors.

Unlimited number of courses

I've heard that this school is easy!

Nothing in this world worth having comes by easily. Coming to Medicine Hat Alternative High Program might be the first thing in a long time that YOU have done for YOU. YOU are the one who has to put the effort into being successful.

NO TIME FOR SCHOOL!

Our program is production based not attendance based. Weekly hand-ins are required to maintain your spot in the program.

One of the unique aspects of this school is that you can work on your courses based on your own schedule. This allows flexibility around work or other commitments. It's all part of taking responsibility for YOUR OWN actions.

However, remember that the 3-strike rule applies, so keep up those hand-ins.
